Clinical Supervision

Psychotherapists and counsellors are required to have regular clinical supervision by their ethical and professional body.

The overall purpose of supervision is firstly to monitor and promote the welfare of clients seen by the supervisee. Within this framework supervision is subsequently focused on the development of the supervisee’s professional identity and enhancing clinical practice. This reflection takes place through a conversation with another or others. Supervision provides a particular type of conversation that can support the aims of supervision as a clinical responsibility.

My perspective is integrative in approach and I draw on Robin Shohet's Seven Eyed Process Model and the Cyclical Model of Supervision.

The aims of clinical supervision are:

  • To ensure the clinician is working safely and ethically
  • To encourage the clinician in their professional growth and development
  • To explore the impact the clinician's clients have on their work and wellbeing.
  • To explore the challenges and difficulties the clinician encounters in their clinical work with clients.
  • To enhance the clinicians knowledge and expertise.

Clinical supervision is a supportive space to reflect within a contained environment where clinical, personal and process issues can be explored in a therapeutically useful space.

    I provide ongoing supervision for:
  • Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Allied Healthcare Providers
  • Trainee Counsellors and Psychotherapists and Trainee Psychosexual Therapists
  • Psychosexual and Relationship Therapists

I also provide one-off clinical supervision and consultancy for Counsellors, Psychotherapists and other Healthcare providers who need supervision and guidance working with a particular client presenting with:
  • Sexual problems
  • Relationship problems
  • Compulsive sexual behaviours
